BLESSED HEADACHE

Canadian outfit Blessed push the boundaries on their newest single 'Headache'. Toeing the line between angular post punk in the vein of fellow Canadians Ought and restlessly intricate math rock, Blessed sound like a band who know exactly what they're doing, effortlessly pulling off complex riffs, changes and time signatures without stepping over into self-indulgence. Singer and guitarist Drew Riekman discusses the inspiration behind the lyrics of the track, writing: "I remember we were driving somewhere in Ontario when I was writing the lyrics on my phone. We had been driving for an immense amount of time, it may have been coming out of Northern Ontario which in my opinion is the worst drive in Canada, despite it’s beauty. If you’re not in the mood to be doing it, it can be grating. I was dealing with a general anxiety, a small headache, not enough water, passing by a bunch of identical houses and new developments entering southern Ontario. It was just sentence fragments that encapsulated a million tiny outside forces creating a single anxious feeling." Blessed will release their new EP II on April 28th via Kingfisher Bluez (Canada) and Cointoss Records (US). - HLMX
